The Fukang Meteorite.

This piece shows off the meteorite’s characteristic large pieces of peridot ((Mg,Fe)₂SiO₄) suspended in a metallic nickel-iron matrix.

Mark Thompson | on Tumblr (b.1972, UK/Germany)

Mark Thompson is a British born artist, currently lives and works in Germany. He has an intense fascination with wintry landscapes and depicts the kind of environment that compels most people to retreat indoors. His primary drive as an artist is to try to make sense of his place in the world. Through the caprices and inconsistencies memory, Mark Thompson hopes to access a kind of collective memory of place. He does not seek to illustrate a particular place in point of fact, but rather develop and ultimately “make” a version of the world seen through the isolation of personal memories. The mind/body distinction - the phenomena of the mind seeming to look out at the world from behind the eyes - forms the basis of his attempt to understand and record the world through his own consciousness.
